Arranging your blood test
Blood tests requested by ourselves are now being undertaken at the surgery – please contact reception to book this.
Blood tests requested by the hospital can be booked at one of the local phlebotomy clinics, to do this you can visit https://patientconnect.uhnm.nhs.uk/ to book an appointment and receive a text confirmation of date/time/venue. Patients who do not have internet or mobile access can call 01782 674242 to make an appointment.
Specimens
All specimens must be provided in a suitable container and marked clearly with name, date of birth, date provided and reason for the specimen.
Failure to do so may mean that the test will need to be repeated – Please note that when bringing in a sample to the surgery, only samples in the correct container can be accepted. These are available from reception.
Urine Samples
We do seem to be getting an increasing number of urine samples put into the Practice Sample Box. Often the bottles are unlabelled and we have no idea who the sample relates to and there is no clinical information at all. We simply cannot process such samples. If you have contacted the Surgery and you are asked to provide a sample please ensure that it is in the appropriate bottle with the details filled out and that you give as much information as possible to the receptionist so this can be entered onto your notes. The receptionists have a checklist to ensure the clinician has all the relevant information.
Pathology Samples
When we have requested pathology samples (urine/stools/swabs etc) it is important to get these samples to the laboratory and processed as soon as possible. Samples are normally collected by 1pm Monday-Friday. If you have a sample you can leave it in the new sample box by the back door. If your sample is provided after 1pm you can take it to Cobridge Health Centre where the last collection leaves at 4.45pm.
